Academy spearheads industry drive to attract young people

Carolyn Wilkinson, ATI Allvac,
meets student Arron Jameson during a Metals Academy work
experience programme induction. |
The Metals Academy, marks a new era in
the drive to attract young people to careers in metals, in
response to needs identified by employers throughout the sector.
Led by employers, the Academy draws together the best in education,
careers promotion, apprenticeship and graduate provision nationally
and regionally into a ‘one stop shop’ for employers
and young people.
A range of co-ordinated services is available
at national and regional level, with the central objectives
being to:
- generate interest and commitment amongst
young people, pre and post recruitment to the industry
- influence the education curriculum
and availability of training to meet employer needs
- improve value for money and ease-of-access
for employers.
