Metals Industry Health & Safety Passport PLUS
Introduction
| Health and safety in the workplace
is becoming increasingly complex. Legislative requirements are demanding
with high penalties imposed for failure, and rising insurance premiums
and lost-time accident costs are placing additional burden on employers
in the metals industry. |
|
In addition to providing basic health
and safety training for all employees, employers need to ensure that
individuals in positions of responsibility supervisors, foremen,
team leaders and managers have the knowledge and ability to
create a positive and effective health and safety culture.
The Metals Industry Health & Safety Passport PLUS
builds on the Health & Safety Passport for operatives, to ensure
employees at a supervisory level have the ability to support health
and safety procedures and ensure the effective implementation of
health and safety practices throughout the workplace. It offers
a unique combination of essential learning in both the theory and
practical application of managing health and safety, together with
workplace assessment.
The Health & Safety Passport PLUS is supported
by the Health & Safety Executive.

Business Benefits
The Health & Safety Passport PLUS

safety application for employees at supervisory level or above
- better management of health and safety to reduce the
risk of accidents and related costs
arising from lost time or litigation
- evidence of essential health and safety knowledge and
competence to show that your
key employees can plan and take action to achieve a positive health
and safety workplace culture
that meets the requirements of current legislation
- individual certification recognising employee achievement

insurance premiums with a growing number of brokers.

The Metals Industry Health & Safety Passport
& Passport PLUS schemes have an established track record within the
metals industry, and employers report significant bottom line gains, including:

savings
on insurance premiums
We saved between £10,000
and £15,000 on our employers liability insurance premium
by all our employees achieving the Health & Safety Passport
or Passport PLUS. Without it, we would probably not have got insurance
at all; the Passport scheme has literally saved our business.

a catalyst
for culture change
Involving our employees in health
and safety creates a productive flow of ideas which means that improvement
in the workplace never ends; revisions to procedures and practices
take place as needed. We are now seeing the benefits from this change
of culture within our company. Our employees are safer, we have
built better relationships because of this and more importantly
we are now managing health and safety in a correct and professional
manner.
