| Who
are we
MetSkill was established in 1990, by employers in the metals
industry, as a mutual venture to help improve business performance and
skills.
Today, we are recognised by our industry as the strategic
skills and performance body for the UK metals industry. Our Board comprises
of senior directors from large and small companies across the sector,
we are a part of the SEMTA group.
The metals industry includes companies that make, process,
distribute and recycle ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and large scale
fabricators of metals in construction. It directly employs some 470,000
employees nationwide - twice the size of the automotive sector; has an
annual turnover of £38 billion; and exports worth nearly £10
billion per annum. Most other manufacturing sectors depend on the metals
industry for raw materials.
The aim of MetSkill is to achieve measurable
and sustainable improvements in business performance in the UK metals
industry
through enabling metals companies to:
- recruit high calibre new entrants
- achieve workforce competence and culture change
- reduce costs, release cash and improve customer
service
- manage performance, change and effective supply
chain relationships
Our activities are dictated by industry needs and address
key business issues such as reducing costs, culture change, management
capability, skills gaps and shortages, health and safety compliance and
the need to attract bright new entrants.
We have offices in Sheffield and at the National Metalforming
Centre in West Bromwich; and an experienced staff team of 24.
